Announcement

We have been engaged to support the general contractor building a hyperscale data center in Childress, Texas.

Context & detail

This is our second panhandle data center, and the two sites are close enough that we can move experienced people between them as the work calls for it. That is the practical version of added capacity: when a contractor needs another set of hands who already understands the job, we are not starting a search from nothing.

Our support covers the whole of what we do in construction. Owner's representation, project controls, construction management, field supervision and document controls are all on the table, and the contractor decides how much of each they want. Some weeks that is supervision in the field. Other weeks it is help thinking through an approach, or a specialist filling a gap for as long as the gap is there.

Where we tend to earn our place is in the sourcing. Finding the right person for a specific job takes knowing both the job and the person, and we do the work of matching them rather than sending whoever is available. Once they are on site they get onboarded quickly and they stay in touch with us.

That last part matters. The contractor has the same points of contact through the whole job, and we keep checking whether what we are providing is still the right thing.

Data center construction puts unusual pressure on coordination. Electrical, mechanical and structural work all want the same space on the same dates, and the equipment driving the schedule is often still being built while the building goes up around it. Steady attention to how the pieces fit together is most of the answer.
